Mitzi May:
St.Louis 1927
Mitzi looked around her speakeasy with a small sigh. There wasn’t much going on. The hand wasn’t playing. The patrons seemed uninterested and it overall felt slightly gloomy. Her ear flicked in bordem. Mitzi sat up and sighed with her southern accent “lord have mercy…” being from Georgia she had always had that charm and Hospitality. She could be two ways a unfazed businesswoman or sweet and motherly. But no matter what she always could do things for herself.
You know, in this business it’s not enough to be just an entrepreneur or just a hostess.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi turned her attention to where she heard the voice, her ears perked up her eyes scanning who had spoke to her,she looked at the man,her eyes narrowing slightly "Is that so….." she crossed her legs and her tail moved gently, her head tilted slightly "and just who are you darlin?"
A casual visitor.
Although I used to come here quite often.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi nodded her head at that a small slightly amused hum coming from her,her tail flicking slowly "oh? a former regular then I see," she motioned for him to come closer "have a seat then darlin don't be shy now…"
*I sit down nearby.*
I see the establishment isn’t doing very well.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi nodded her head slightly in confirmation at that, letting out a small hum, letting out a small sigh as she spoke her southern accent being prominent
"You'd be correct darlin….. we ain't doing too hot here… the lack of activity has left me quite bored….."
What do you think the matter is? Why has the place lost its former appeal?
Mitzi May:
Mitzi shook her head slightly at that as her expression became more thoughtful, her ears folding back a bit at the question, a small sigh leaving her again, her fingers tapping the counter gently, her tail flicking slowly.
"Honestly I don't know…. Everything is the same as it used to be… the music, the activities, the atmosphere… but now…. It just feels different….empty you know?"
Yes, I understand. I understand perfectly.
Something changed with Atlas’s disappearance.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression darkened at that, her fingers stilled along the countertop a coldness entering her body, her eyes narrowing and her ears flattening slightly, her tail stopping its flicking completely, her jaw clenched slightly.
"……..yes…" her voice was cold and quiet "It definitely has changed since the death of Atlas….and not in a good way…."
Tell me, what is the main profile of your establishment?
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression became a bit more business like at that, her features smoothing out, her fingers tracing in absent patterns along the counter as she spoke, her tail returning its flicking
"Our main profile is a speakeasy and cafe darlin. We offer a variety of things. From illegal booze, dancing, gambling and much more." She paused for a moment before adding "we just haven't gotten a lot of clientele recently."
It seems that with Atlas’s death you lost one of the main elements of this place’s atmosphere — risk.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression darkened slightly at that, her eyes narrowing ever slightly. She knew he was correct.
"….I suppose you are right….without Atlas and his risk taking and high stakes dealings the atmosphere here lacks the thrill, the adrenaline that we had before…."
She paused for a moment her tail still flicking gently, her ears perking up for a moment "…..you seem to understand quite well just what I'm feeling…"
That’s exactly why people don’t come here anymore.
Illegal alcohol and gambling hardly surprise anyone these days.
Even if the police drop by, the local crowd isn’t simple: they’ll pay off, negotiate, intimidate.
But it’s something entirely different if, when things go wrong, you have to deal with Atlas’s gang.
Atlas was feared and respected. It was precisely that charm of his, that danger emanating from him and everything he did, that gave this place its reputation of not letting just anyone in, of requiring one to earn the right to be here. And the sign in the form of a club suit was proof that its owner had earned that right.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression continued to remain dark as she listened to him speak,a frown appearing on her face as she realized just how right he was. He was hitting the nail right on the head.
"You are absolutely right darling…."
She let out a sigh, a bitter and cold one,her tail flicking a bit more, her fingers drumming on the countertop "…everything you said… you are so completely right….the risk factor is what made this place so popular and attractive…"
And I must tell you something unpleasant: you are not him.
The first one to feel it and draw the conclusion was Mordecai Heller.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression turned cold at the unpleasant reality being pointed out to her. Her eyes darkened and narrowed, her tail completely still, her ears flattening. She knew he was right, and she hated it
"You're right….I'm not Atlas….and I never will be….. I am well aware of that darling…" her voice became bitter and colder as she spoke "….and Mordecai… he always has to rub my face in it…."
I see this conversation is unpleasant for you. Unfortunately.
Well then, I’ll pay and go.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression relaxed slightly, her tail starting to flick again, her ears perked up,she shook her head slightly
"No please….stay a moment longer…."
She said her tone becoming lighter, slightly warmer. Despite the topic this person was the only one who was completely upfront with her,and in a odd way she didn't want him to go yet. Not yet.
I won’t be long, I’ll come back. There are some matters I need to settle to have more free time.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi nodded her head at that,a small hum sounding from her,her expression slightly thoughtful, her tail flicking for a moment, before she spoke again
"You know….you are one of the first people I've talked to who hasn't been scared to speak their mind… who doesn't just tip toe around the real issues and the truth."
She paused for a moment, her expression becoming slightly curious
"What is your name by the way? You never told me."
BusyChicken6469.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi chuckled softly to herself,a small smirk appearing on her face at the name
"BusyChicken6469….that's….quite the unique name."
She said, her voice holding some amused in it,her tail flicking a bit more
"May I ask you a question darlin?"
Yes.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi tilted her head slightly her eyes studying your expression for a moment, her voice becoming a little more serious but holding a hint of curiosity in it
"Since you seem to be quite upfront…. I have to ask, what is your opinion of me?"
She kept her tone light as she asked, but she genuinely was curious. What did you think of her?
Perhaps you are a decent administrator, but in a business tied to illegal dealings, it’s usually personal authority that matters. Unfortunately, you don’t have it.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi's expression darkened slightly as she listened to your brutal honesty. She knew you were right, and it left a bitter taste in her mouth. She let out a sigh, her tail flicking a bit more, her eyes narrowing somewhat.
"You don't hold back do you?…."
She let out a bitter chuckle at that,a wry smile appearing on her face, "you're right though… I don't have the same authority as Atlas…. I never will…"
Firstly, you came from a different environment, and secondly, you are a woman. All of this has its impact.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi rolled her eyes at that, letting a tired sigh leave her,her tail swishing more, she knew you were right. She knew that being a woman in this time period made things much more difficult.
"You are right again, darling…."
She said, her tone slightly bitter as once again you didn't hold anything back.
"Being a woman alone is a disadvantage in this goddamn business….and the fact I came up in a different environment doesn't help either…"
*I pay Viktor for the drinks.*
Madam, it’s time for me to go, but I’ll return soon.
Though it’s not the same as it used to be, the place still retains some charm. Mostly thanks to you.
Mitzi May:
Mitzi watched as you got up,she nodded her head in understanding, letting a hum sound from her,as a small smirk appeared on her face at the somewhat compliment, her tail flicking softly.
"Alright darlin, you stay safe out there….and hopefully next time we can chat for a tad longer and for a less depressing topic."
Her tone held a small note of teasing in it, her eyes watching you.
*I smile and bow slightly to Mitzi.*
All the best.
*I head to the door, Horatio opens it, I wave to Mitzi and disappear behind the door. Horatio closes the door.*
Mitzi May:
Mitzi watched you head towards the door,a small hum leaving her when you bowed and waved. She was amused at the fact you seemed to have some manners and a level of respect. She waved as you exited, watching as the door closed, her expression becoming more thoughtful. She was curious as to whether you will return….
She let out a sigh, leaning against the counter and staring off into space….
